10/07/2006 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Tampa Bay Lightning will have their home opener tonight when they invite the Boston Bruins to the St. Pete Times Forum.

The Lightning opened the season on the road this Thursday and earned a shootout victory over Atlanta. Vincent Lecavalier scored the lone goal of the shootout and Marc Denis stopped all three Atlanta shooters as Tampa Bay beat the Thrashers 3-2.

Ryan Craig scored both regulation goals for the Lightning, while Denis finished with nine saves.

Tampa Bay can also begin a campaign with back-to-back wins for the first time since its Stanley Cup championship season of 2003-04, when it won six in a row to start the year.

The Bruins began the season on Friday night at Florida and were handed an 8-3 loss by the Panthers. Todd Bertuzzi led the way for Florida with one goal and three assists.

Marco Sturm had a goal and an assist and Glen Murray and Wayne Primeau each tallied a goal for the Bruins, who are now 34-32-16 in their season opener. Tim Thomas was shelled for seven goals on 34 shots and Hannu Toivonen stopped three of the four shots he faced.

Boston, which finished 13th overall in the Eastern Conference last season, made some major changes in the offseason and signed the most coveted free agent in 6-foot-9 defenseman Zdeno Chara. Also, the club managed to grab playmaking center Marc Savard to provide some offensive punch.

New moves in the office and behind the bench have Peter Chiarelli as the new general manager and Dave Lewis serving as the new head coach.

The Bruins won three of four meetings with the Lightning last season.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
