Mets designate Nieve for assignment; recall Acosta

07/23/2010 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Mets have designated pitcher Fernando Nieve for assignment and recalled pitcher Manny Acosta from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the roster spot.

Nieve was 2-4 with a 6.00 earned run average in 40 games this season, including one start. He last pitched on Wednesday against Arizona and took the loss after allowing the winning run in the 14th inning of a 4-3 setback.

Acosta appeared in 12 games for the Mets earlier this season and was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. The 29-year-old right-hander was with the Mets from April 21-May 22.

Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
